The really small ones will download special tracing software such as Process Explorer from MS and to identify the HP driver for HP Imaging was spiking the CPU usage. During install, I thought I had unchecked nearly all of HP's crapware, but they put some almost essential functionality outside of the actual driver, so even diligent people will get caught on this.
You need to DISABLE this bugger because it will automatically re-start even if you switch to manual (as some people have posted and HP service recommended). If you have already bought the printer, and need to fix this, go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools> Services and find "HP Network Devices Support".
If you dig REALLY deeply into to cybersphere you will find MANY people complaining of their CPU inexplicable going to 100% usage and bringing their computer to a crawl. This printer is one of those cases.
For my next printer I'm buying the new EPSON line printers as I've had WAY too many problems with HP printer software. Also, just to help others search for this solution, in addition to svchost.exe pushing the CPU to 100% I also had services.exe, spoolsv.exe, ASFAgent.exe and rundll32.exe topping the list. The knowledgeable ones will see that a process called svchost.exe is eating of the processor, but this process houses many others.
It is a well-known secret that while HP builds great hardware, their softeare is terrible and in many cases makes the hardware almost unasable.
HP recently came out with a "fix" that I installed 2 days ago - only to find out that my printer had disappeared again this morning. The printer randomly uninstalls itself. Do a search on Google using "HP printer disappears" and you will see that many others have the same problem. I have owned this printer for over a year. It is very annoying to have to periodically completely reinstall and configure your printer. I really have no problems with the way it functions. The print quality is fine. However, if you want to use your printer on a wireless network I recommend that you purchase something other than HP.
Poor product quality is bad for me in that I have buy a new printer every year or two. Same problem. Bottom Line: I'm sure the printers specs and tech support program seem good on paper to HP management but the overall consumer experience is horrible. I have a few points to make about HP product quality, HP customer service and my overall experience with HP.Printer Product QualityHP's all in one printers seems to break after about one or two years. (BTW, I have no problem w/ the operators -- they are just doing their jobs). Telephone second attempt: Bought a new cartridge. HP Mgt needs to adrs the systematic problems w/ the quality/price ratio of the products as well as their customer support.I'd avoid HP consumer printer products.
Didn't work.Telephone first attempt: Then I called -- actually got a real person -- but had the follow the exact same steps to get to the same place. Gave up after 10 minutes of holding. Offered to sell me a new printer at a discount which turned out to be at a price higher than on this site. Then to add insult to injury -- when I asked for a supervisor, I was told he was very busy.then transferred to hold land "Call will be answered by next available agent"). The tech guy seems to have followed a very specific and pedantic script. After a 30 minutes, I was told that the printer was out of warranty and there's nothing to done.
This is my second HP to break in less than two years of home use. Called back. A ten dollar part has taken about two hours to replace. And this is of course and environmental issue -- I'm sure printer manufacture isn't environmentally friendly -- and disposal isn't good either.Customer service Online: I followed the troubleshooting steps as described online (took about an hour to find and to do). After his own system problems, duplicate requests for information like my email adrs, phone, adrs, serial number, part number, ink cartridge part number (for both the old and the new one), their solution -- sending me a new cartridge.
Excellant print and picture quality. Easy to set up. Works easy from LCD.
The back piece that comes off to remove paper is already falling apart as I have had to remove it so many times. The papertray design is awful and is very hard to get to when it does get jammed. Hate this printer. I'll keep this short, but I have owned many HP over the years and this is by far the worst. It jams on every other sheet that I print, drops from my home WiFi network daily and freezes up when printing in every 1/4 jobs.
